A chaperone is a trained member of our team who can be present during your consultation, examination or procedure to support you and help ensure your comfort, dignity, and safety.
All chaperones respect your confidentiality.
You can request a chaperone at any time, for any appointment.
A chaperone will be offered by STAR:
You may accept or decline a chaperone, and importantly, change your mind at any point.
Your decision will be respected and recorded in your medical notes.
A chaperone is a trained and impartial member of staff who is present during an examination, investigation, or procedure.
A family member or friend does not qualify as a formal chaperone but may be present at the patient’s request in addition to a formal chaperone, subject to clinical appropriateness and consent.
Where possible, we will try to meet any preferences that you may have.
If a chaperone is unavailable and the examination / procedure is not urgent, we can rearrange your appointment for you.
This policy will be reviewed annually or sooner if CQC guidance changes; legislation is updated; and/or an incident or audit identifies the need for revision.
