The loss of collagen and elastin from the skin’s structure as we grow older is a natural process, leading to the development of lines and wrinkles, along with lost volume and hydration resulting in sagging and altered facial definition as the skin has lost its ability to ‘bounce back’ and retain its natural position.

This is particularly noticeable along the jawline, whereby the effects of gravity mean the skin is less able to support the weight of the facial tissue and subcutaneous fat under the skin, and the development of facial sagging or jowls can occur. Weight loss can also be a contributing factor to a sagging face, where the skin has stretched out over a period of time and is no longer able to return to its more youthful, tighter state.

Many people nowadays look to non-surgical, temporary fixes to address the effects of ageing, however, these are not always able to give the more dramatic solution you seek, and require regular maintenance and top ups.

If you are looking to achieve a more defined, youthful, visible result, then you may wish to consider surgical intervention as a more long term solution to help you meet your goals.

During a thorough consultation, Mr. Marando will assess your facial structure and conditional needs to determine the right type of face lift for you.

In all types of facelift, the skin is lifted off the SMAS (superficial musculoaponeurotic system), which is a layer that wraps around the facial muscles and continues on to become the muscle in the neck that is responsible for the producing of neck bands. It is because these elements are continuous, depending on the specific ageing pattern, that a facelift, in many cases, often ought to be performed in conjunction with a neck lift & vice versa, for an optimal result.

It is important that incisions are made in places to ensure discrete scarring, following the natural creases around the ears. The muscles are tightened and excess skin is removed along with any extra fatty tissue that may be present, ensuring it is not the skin that is used to support the newly lifted face before closing the wound.

There are a number of different techniques of face lift and neck lift surgery performed by Mr. Marando, including;

SMAS PLICATION – In this technique, the SMAS is folded back onto itself, either horizontally or vertically to create a pleated effect.

SMAS FLAP – (DEEP PLANE) – Dissection which occurs beneath the SMAS is performed further away from the ear and more toward the centre of the face. This allows for the retaining ligaments of the face and neck to be released and move more freely and naturally.

SMAS-stacking technique – Generally used to restore and reposition volume.
CORSET PLATYSMAPLASTY – involves the medial retightening / reconstruction of the muscles in the neck to perform a successful neck lift.

LSD Lateral Platysma Displacement Technique – a relatively new technique for the neck lift, whereby the muscles in the neck are restructured and placed in a more lateral position, decreasing the risk recurrence of neck bands.

The appropriate technique will be chosen to take a tailored approach, focusing on your individual concerns and personal goals, and will often be performed with other procedures such as: eyelid lift, brow lift or neck rejuvenation surgery, ensuring the face receives a fully rejuvenated and balanced appearance. The operation usually requires an overnight stay in hospital, and you will be given important aftercare advice to follow, essential for successful healing and recovery.

Mr. Marando will follow up your surgery with post-operative consultations, assessing your recovery and ensuring that your ‘Face Lift’ has successfully enhanced your facial features to lessen the signs of ageing and deliver a natural-looking improved version of you, with full results visible in around 6 months.
